Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start with moving preparations?
It is a good idea to start preparations as soon as you decide to move to Germany (within 1 year of departure). In particular, it takes a considerable amount of time to obtain documents from the university, so you should start at the very latest three months before you move to Germany.
Is it easy to find an apartment?
It can be very difficult. It takes time and effort because it is more common to negotiate directly with the landlord instead of going through real estate companies. We have information about apartments not yet on the market, so please contact us as soon as possible after you have decided to move to Germany.
Which documents are necessary for residence registration and application for residence permit?
Necessary documents vary depending on what you are applying or registering for. Please see our Applications and Registrations section on our website for details. For customers who have chosen our Total Support Package, we will create a To do list with all necessary documents listed up for you.

K.S Mechanical Engineer

Because we received assistance which fit the different situations specific to Aachen, our stay became a very fulfilling one. With their help, setting up our new life was completed in a short period of time, allowing me to immediately get started on my research. Their advice for hosting my child’s birthday party was extremely helpful, as we were at a loss at how to arrange it. In the last year of our stay, our children were invited to more than 10 of their friends’ birthday parties. We are still in touch with many German families living in Aachen, even after moving back to Japan.

It is very challenging for a foreigner to find himself a home in Germany. Since there are quite a number of local registrations and applications to be done after arriving to Germany, it was a huge relief to have the house search already done while we were still in Japan.

H.S Mechanical Engineer

With their support, I was able to start my studies and new life abroad very smoothly. Since finding a kindergarten for my child would have been extremely difficult for a non-German speaker like me, I was especially thankful for their help with the search. As our child has asthma, their Vitamin B (their network of personal connections with doctors) was a tremendous help in finding a good pediatrician for our child.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, I could not travel to Germany before my move in order to search for an apartment. I had no acquaintances there and there was little information on the internet about Aachen in Japanese. This was the reason why I asked Helfensankaku for help. It was a great relief to be able to receive necessary information about Aachen in Japanese while still in Japan. They visited several apartments on my behalf and gave me detailed advice from a local resident’s point of view. Thanks to their help, I was able to choose an apartment with peace of mind and leave them to handle all the necessary procedures for the contract. Even after moving to Germany, the staff member living in Aachen continues to give us advice and support, which we are extremely thankful for.

N.T Doctor

I could rely on them completely, not only for their meticulous support setting up our life here and regarding the children’s education, but also because they empathized with the mental stress that I felt from moving to a completely new environment. Their wide network among both Japanese and Germans was a big help in solving our issues and was a huge emotional support for us.

Y.K Mechanical Engineer

When we were on our own searching for an apartment, we had trouble finding one that fit our needs, and only the time flew by. After engaging Helfensankaku’s help, our apartment search proceeded smoothly, and we successfully found a spacious apartment where our children could live and grow comfortably. They also found us a kindergarten while we were still in Japan, which was a great relief. Furthermore, we continually received kind and detailed advice even after we arrived in Germany, which lightened our emotional burden of adapting to life in a new country.
