Laurensberg

Quiet, upscale residential area

About fifty years ago, the formerly independent municipality of Laurensberg was merged with the surrounding villages to become what is now the largest outer district of the city, covering the entire area west of downtown Aachen and extending to the Dutch border. The center of Laurensberg, situated northwest of the city of Aachen and a mere 15-minutes bus ride away, is a sought-after, rather high-end residential area with a large number of roomy free-standing houses. Its proximity to the RWTH institutes and the upper-class environment it offers make Laurensberg a favorite residential area amongst the higher-level academics working at the university. The larger part of the municipal area is marked by a rural atmosphere, its vast meadow landscapes inviting one to long walks or cycling trips. Laurensberg is also home to Aachen’s golf club, the facilities of the international horse show CHIO, and – to make it perfect – the factory outlet of Swiss Chocolatier Lindt & Sprüngli.
